Woodhaven Street Fair - Sunday, October 19, 2008

Went to the Woodhaven Street Fair today.  As you can see, they shut down Jamaica Avenue, and a few thousand people packed the streets and enjoyed rides, food, and music.  The NYPD was out in force and did a great job, as usual.  Here are a few pictures:

We walked down Jamaica Avenue from Woodhaven Boulevard down to 85th Street and back.  At various times it got real crowded.  The community did a great job showing up and supporting the Fair.

There were lots of food stands - with a wide variety of foods.  The Avenue smelled great.

They had a great day for the Fair.  It was a little chilly in the shade, though.

This food stand was quite popular - they had some real tasty zeppoles along with sausages.

There were some classic cars on display -- check out this beauty.

The guy selling cotton candy was doing a brisk business today.

Many of the businesses took advantage of the crowds and set up a table outside.

A young couple enjoys themselves at the Woodhaven Street Fair.

This seems like a Street Fair tradition, a giant slide on 91st Street.  There were lots of rides, mostly of the inflatable kind.  When I was young, I remember them always having "The Whip" - didn't see that this year.

It was a real friendly crowd today - and everyone seemed to have a good time.

Did I mention all the great food they had available?  It was a good thing we walked so far today - it gave us a chance to walk off some of the stuff we ate!

In summary, it was a great day out at the Woodhaven Street Fair.  The weather was nice and they got a good crowd together, young an old and dozens of nationalities - all Woodhavenites, though, getting together to support the neighborhood and have a great time.
