Forest Park - Dark and Frozen

This is a short report, on account of our camera not taking great pictures at night.  Oh, we ended up with a few good pictures -- but a whole bunch of pics we couldn't use.  Maybe Santa will bring us a new camera this year :-)  Anyway, we were out taking some night pics and ended up in Forest Park -- driving along Forest Park Drive.  And with all the leaves gone, you get a great view overlooking Woodhaven, as well as surrounding areas.

It was a clear night and we could see the flights lined up over the ocean, waiting to land at JFK.  Truly a spectacular evening.  Here's a darker picture, more reflective of what it looks like from up there at night.

That wee cluster of lights above is 85th Street, heading towards Jamaica Avenue.  The map below might help explain where we were standing when we took that picture.  Also, if you see two small lights hovering above the horizon, that's a jet taking off from JFK.

The following picture is blurry -- but it was the best we could do.  Looking out towards JFK we saw this red tower.  And we have no idea what it is.  I guess we don't get out enough :-)  It's real close to the airport -- could it be the air control tower?  Please excuse our ignorance -- maybe someone out there can pass along an answer.

And here's a rather ominous looking picture, again taken from Forest Park Drive -- looking at the walkway that goes around the golf course.  I love the way the path just vanishes at the bottom.

So, next, we moved down to the Seuffert Bandshell parking lot.  It was a sheet of ice and as we drove inside, we were slipping and sliding.  We parked on some crunchy snow and had dinner -- a few slices of pizza from Sal's.  Then we took a few pics -- check out this one -- it almost looks like we were sitting on the moon!

This next picture looks so very festive, doesn't it?  We had to be very careful walking about as it was so icy -- something that will come into play down below.

Here you can see the bandshell in the background.  And, again, look how icy the ground is.  Back when I was young, we'd go up there in our car and skid around on the ice.  Thank God people don't do that anymore . . . .

Oops!  Never mind . . . Heh... these guys were jerks, and any chuckling you hear from me should not be construed as condoning their actions.

What a wonderful park we have right here in Woodhaven.  Beautiful in the day or in the night.  If Santa gets us a better camera, maybe we'll work on some nocturnal reports.
