We missed the advertisements for this -- so it was blind luck that we came across this yesterday.  There's a giant rummage sale in Msgr. Mulz Hall on Jamaica Avenue (at 88th Street).  We couldn't get anyone to go on camera -- they were shy -- so we took a little tour on our own and give you the rundown:

The hours are Monday to Friday - 9 to 1 and then again from 6 to 8.  On Saturday they are open from 8 to 5, and on Sunday from 8 to 4.  And this sale is going on for another few weeks!

They've got a tremendous number of videotapes going real cheap, about a dollar each.  I saw a lot of real good films -- and I saw some interesting one that I'd never seen before.

Here's the scoop: All of these items are donated.  And all of the workers are volunteers.  Thus, all of the money goes to the church.  So, basically, it's a fundraiser for a good cause.

And there were a lot of interesting items on display.  There's an old radio (below, left) that still works.  And below, right, is a radio that looks like an old-fashioned phone.

Funny and true story:  Remember the Auction/Fundraiser the Woodhaven Cultural & Historical Society had a few weeks ago?  We donated an item to that and someone walked away with it . . . and then donated it to this rummage sale!  So when we walked into Msgr. Mulz Hall, it was just about the first thing we saw.  So we bought it back for a dollar.  We couldn't resist . . .

We'd always wanted one :-)

They had a good selection of old electronics.  We saw a few 8-track players, and a few turntable players.  And the thing to remember is that more stuff keeps coming in!    Even as we were leaving a guy pulled up with a van full of stuff.  We're in the market for a reel-to-reel player and a film projector, so we'll be stopping in every few days.  They had a lot of good cassette tapes for a buck.  Led Zeppelin I, II, III and IV for 4 bucks - can you beat that?

As you can see -- from the video and the pictures -- there's all sorts of stuff here.  Clothing, furniture, games, CDs, videotapes, books, etc.

I've got to go back and browse through the books.  We only had a few moments because we were heading out to the bandshell for a concert, so I just had time to do a quick scan.  They also had lots of spare telephones and various electronics.

This one corner near the front was really cool -- it had bicycles, golf clubs, baseball bats, etc.  Check out that old sled -- that thing looks ancient!  It's worth checking out -- and if you have some stuff you'd like to donate to a good cause, they're more than willing to accept it.  Just bring it in!
