Bobbi & The Strays is a not-for-profit animal rescue organization based here in Queens.  Bobbi's policy is 100% no-kill -- all of the rescued animals receive complete medical attention (examinations, vaccinations), they are spayed/neutered, and they are treated with love and respect.  However, it costs money to run this organization, and with that in mind Bobbi & The Strays raised money this past weekend with their Walk-4-Paws event which took place at the Seuffert Bandshell in Forest Park.

Project Woodhaven is a pet-friendly site and I was really looking forward to covering this event.  Unfortunately, I was on the road this weekend and would not be able to attend, so Mrs. Project Woodhaven went on her first solo assignment and filed this report.

The weather had been pretty bad in the days leading up to the walk, but Bobbi's website announced that the walk was on, rain or shine.  And, is if to prove that the gods smile on all creatures great and small, the rain held off and they were able to get the event in.  Everyone gathered at the bandshell early in the morning and the walk began around 10 AM.

Those that had assembled -- those with 2 legs and those with 4 -- marched out of the parking lot and down Baby Carriage Lane, around and back again.

In addition to rescuing animals, Bobbi & The Strays is involved in educating folks on the proper way to car for their pets.  And as you can see above, they also employ some of the animals themselves as educators.  Mrs. Project Woodhaven reports that there were some beautiful dogs out on Saturday, and some proud and loving owners at their side.

It's a wonderful organization that deserves our support.  And luckily, a lot of kind folks were very generous with their time and support this weekend and it appears that the fundraiser was a terrific success.  But there's a tremendous number of strays out there, and they are rescuing more and more each week.  If you'd like to donate to this good cause, click here.  Besides straight monetary donations, there are also other creative ways you can donate -- for instance, if you go to that link you can make donations through Ebay -- either through purchases, or by donating a portion of your sales.  That's quite clever.

And, of course, you could always help out by volunteering, for besides the generous donations they receive, the good work they do would not be possible without the help of all those that give their time to aid this cause.

And, finally, if you are looking to add a four-legged friend to your family, is there any better place to go?  The primary goal of Bobbi & The Strays is not just to care for the animals they rescue -- but to find loving households for them to live in.  And Bobbi & The Strays has a guaranteed return policy on all adoptions -- they want to ensure that every animal they rescue ends up in a loving home for life.  If you're interested, Bobbi & The Strays will be at Pet Supplies Plus on Long Beach Road in Oceanside this Saturday (May, 9th) from 11AM to 4 PM (click here for more information).
