When Lewis of Woodhaven closed its' doors, folks were sad.  And when Jason's closed its' doors earlier this year, people were sad.  These were renowned locations in Woodhaven and they were slipping away.  Well, a very different story is being written in Woodhaven this winter -- and it's remarkable what's been done here.  Neir's, one of the oldest taverns in New York, has reopened its doors after a beautiful makeover.

Please be aware that this is not the finished product -- but they are indeed open for business, so go down and see for yourself what they've done.  Located at 78th Street off 88th Avenue, the exterior went under a facelift -- and the view from the outside is warm and inviting.

The owners of Neir's built the front door themselves, just another nice touch in a long list of them.  From the polished floor to the ceiling that was stripped and scraped -- this was a year long restoration.

They will be having a grand opening party soon -- so for now, this is sort of like a test run.  You might liken it to the way a Broadway show has previews :-)  The owners have a lot of very interesting plans -- which we will be hearing more about in the coming weeks and months.

They are very much aware, and respectful, of the long history of this location.  You can see the old doorway against the wall, with Mae West's painting on it.  If you're not up to speed on Neir's and its' history, click here.

We're not going to post our usual few dozen pictures -- instead, we recommend that you see this remarkable restoration for yourself.  Look around while you're inside -- and imagine how many people have walked through that doorway.  Imagine ow many people have ordered drinks at that bar -- and, by the way, they also did a remarkable job restoring the bar.  It's like stepping back in time.

Again, from the floor to the ceiling -- they have done a remarkable job of restoring one of Woodhaven's legends to its' proper glory.  You looking for a nice place to meet your friends?  Maybe you want to plan a reunion with your Facebook friends?  This is a great place to do so.  We'll have lots more details soon.
