We're used to covering events -- not ones in which we were active participants.  But on Friday, November 20th, we got the opportunity to do so when the Woodhaven Residents' Block Association honored Edward K. Wendell as "Community Service Volunteer of the Year" for his work on Project Woodhaven.  From the souvenir journal handed out at the Dinner Dance:

Heh.  I'm getting the heebie-jeebies writing about myself in the third-person, so I'll quit it.  I was very honored and humbled to accept this award -- I was nervous about giving a speech to that many folks.  I had my gal at my side, Mrs. Project Woodhaven who does much of the photography for the site.

Also on hand was Ramon Olivier IV, our partner in Project Woodhaven, shown here with his lovely wife, Debra.

Here I am getting an award from Sen. Joe Addabbo.

And here I am with Assemblyman Mike Miller:

And here, with Elizabeth Crowley of the city council:

By this time, my speech was over and I'd done pretty good.  I was nervous for the first minute or so -- but I was surrounded by so many friends and family, and I was speaking to a very supporting audience, that I calmed down in a hurry and did a pretty good job of it.  Here's Part One:

And Part Two:

And Part Three, Mrs. Project Woodhaven's favorite part, because it's romantic :-)

We had a wonderful time -- and got to see a lot of friends and meet a lot of new friends.  Below left, I'm standing with Joe Virgona and the newest member of the WRBA, Alex Blenkinsopp.  And below right, three former Molloy Boys -- Joe and I were class of `82 and Mike was the class of `79.

Thanks to all who came out -- and all our readers for their continued support.
