It's been a rough few weeks, weather-wise.  Temps have been high and there's been very little rain -- and as a result, things are looking a little dry around Woodhaven this July.  In fact, with all the dead and dry leaves falling to the sidewalk, it almost looks like October around here -- check out the picture below -- does that look like July?

If you go along Park Lane South you'll see that the trees are still in good shape, many of the leaves surviving in the shade -- but that many leaves have begun falling and covering the ground already.

Around 80th and Park Lane South, away from the shade of the trees, the grass has taken a brutal scorching.  It will be a while before that field heals again -- and it will take plenty of water to do so.

Luckily, Forest Park is full of shade -- so inside the park is still mostly cool and green.  But if this heat continues, we might see an erosion of that shade -- which should make for an interesting fall.  Bears watching.

Remember, if you are smoking in the park -- or barbecuing -- be extra cautious this time of year.  One careless person could do a lot of damage!
