There are a number of community meetings each month -- and this one is usually very interesting.  The 102nd Precinct Community Council meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 8:00 PM at the Moose Hall (across the street from the 102nd) at 87-34 118th Street. All are invited to attend.  The 102nd Precinct's Chief -- Captain Armando DeLeon -- attends every meeting and gives a "state of the precinct address."  There are always other police officers and officials as well as community leaders in attendance.

It is a great meeting to attend -- especially if you're having a problem and need advice.  Over the past year we've seen a number of people come to the meeting with one problem or another -- noisy neighbors, people blocking their driveways, etc.  And they weren't sure how to handle it.  Or they have called the police and weren't satisfied with the resolution.  At this meeting you get the full attention of the Captain, and that's a sure fire way to get your problem resolved.

Typically, they honor a police officer -- Cop of the Month -- but the officer they were going to honor this month was on vacation this evening (see recent honorees here, here, here, and here).  Captain DeLeon addressed the crowd and covered the recent storm (and the response to it) as well as the upcoming summer in which the 102 will need to concentrate on Forest Park and Noise complaints in addition to their usual busy workload.  Here is Captain DeLeon:

And here is Part 2 of Captain DeLeon's presentation:

The officers of the 102nd Precinct are friendly and approachable -- and this meeting is a great place to get to know them.  And for them it is also a great place to get to know the community.  Open lines of communication between the community and law enforcement is a key ingredient in keeping us all safe.

Again, the 102nd Precinct Community Council meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. The next meeting will be on April 20th at 8:00 PM and all are invited to attend. It is held at the Moose Hall (across the street from the 102nd) at 87-34 118th Street.
