In a recent discussion on the Woodhaven Yahoo Group, someone mentioned that you could see Jamaica Bay from certain spots in Forest Park.  Naturally, this would be mst easily accomplised in the winter, when the trees are bare.  And you'd need a clear day.  Such an opportunity presented itself the other day, and luckily we had our camera handy.

As you can see, it was a brilliant day -- the sky was clear and the sun was high and very strong.  The reflection off the bay caught our eye and we pulled over.  These pictures do not do the scene justice -- the reflection off of Jamaica Bay was like a white light.

We got out our trusty tripod so the camera would remain steady while we zoomed in to give us all a better look.  This picture was taken across the road from the Golf Course -- just before you get to where the Soup Bowl is.  The sidewalk had been plowed and Parks Department had left us a nice snowy hill to rest our tripod on.

Now, to give us a better idea of what we're looking at, or how far we're looking, here's a map -- how far does that look like to you?  Six miles, or so?  It doesn't seem likely, does it?

Here's a beautiful picture of the trees and the sun -- this really was a fantastic day to be in the park.  Even in the picture below, without the zoom, you can see the reflection at the horizon.  This was taken a little further along, near the steps that go down to Forest Parkway & Park Lane South.

Another zoom shot, taken from the top of the steps.  We're so lucky to have such spectacular views available to us --
