A few residents have asked if the reconstruction and the painting of the EL Train has stopped at 85th Street. We spoke to the MTA this morning and they wanted us to let everyone know that "we’re doing the entire length of the J line – we’re not leaving anyone out. They may be skipping around a little because they need to be done with the painting in Cypress Hills by the schools before the start of the school year. But there’s no reason for anyone to think that they’re being neglected." And as you can see from some of the pictures the MTA sent along, they had already moved along to 87th Street as of last Friday.
As with any reconstruction project of this size, there are bound to be delays -- and recently we've had a number of heat-related and rain delays.
It's been hard on the local businesses -- the painting and the canvases make it more difficult for customers to get to their shops -- and the parking situation hasn't helped. But it needs to be done and they've done a good job moving into an area, working on it, and moving on.
Here they are, all the way up to 88th Street. Looks like a big ship, doesn't it?
Click here to see the schedule for the next 10-14 days -- keeping in mind that this schedule is subject to delays. But if all goes well, they should be working at Woodhaven and Jamaica around the first of September.
Here they are, getting ready to work around 89th Street --
If you head down to Forest Parkway, you'll see how far its' come along -- They are starting work on the stanchions, painting and reconstructing -- This is a huge project -- not just a paint job, but a reconstruction that started early last year with track reconstruction and later in the year with the replacement of the staircases. Check out the guys sitting on the ladder suspended from the EL -- This is where the crew has been concentrating on the last week or two as they need to finish before school starts. Pictures like this remind us that this is also a dangerous job -- many thanks to the MTA for sharing these with us --
