On Saturday, April 30th, residents of Woodhaven took to the streets and began the long process of clearing it of graffiti vandalism.  This outing was part of Stage 1, the clearing of public property -- mailboxes, light poles, fireboxes, etc.  We will be doing it again real soon -- the next Graffiti Clean Up Day is scheduled for SUNDAY, MAY 22nd at 11:00 AM.  Please contact the Woodhaven Residents' Block Association at info@woodhaven-nyc.org, or call 718-296-3735.  Come out and help us make a difference in your community.

The paint and painting supplies came courtesy of Assemblyman Mike Miller who met with our volunteers at the Forest Park Bandshell --

Nearly 2 dozen volunteers in all worked off a list of vandalized locations between Dexter Court and Woodhaven Boulevard, Atlantic Avenue/Rockaway Boulevard and Park Lane South.

Each mailbox took only a few minutes to paint -- sometimes it just needed some brush strokes -- sometimes it needed to be completely painted.

The green Mailboxes were a popular target and we painted over nearly three dozen of them -- sometimes you could see the graffiti bleeding through a bit, some of them may need second coats -- but they looked a hell of a lot better than before.  Special thanks to the people that cared enough about their community to come out and help clean it up -- thank you!

One by one, we reclaimed our neighborhood -- and it felt real good when we finished for the day.  After we cleaned up, we ate pizza together and chatted about the neighborhood.  It felt real good to be part of taking a positive step -- and we were resolved to come back and get the rest of the boxes we didn't get to.  Here's a video of our day on the streets of Woodhaven:

We could definitely use more team members -- please consider coming out on Sunday, May 22 to help reclaim Woodhaven.  Here are some before and after pictures:
