For more than 2 decades, the Woodhaven Cultural & Historical Society has promoted the history of Woodhaven.  They have erected historical markers around Woodhaven and they have published and sold books about Woodhaven history and the local area.  Each year, in December, they gather for a celebration -- and a look towards the new year.  Here is an article about the upcoming year -- and here is a printable 2013 Schedule of Events.  All meetings take place at 1 PM on the last Wednesday of the month at Emanuel United Church of Christ at 91st Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard.

The day before the party, we were out getting supplies and we saw something that was an omen for a good party!

The buffet was delicious with a hero from Manor Deli, a sheet cake courtesy of Assemblyman Mike Miller and pizza from A Taste of Italy.  There were also salads and assorted dishes and snacks brought in by the members.

The Historical Society thanked Emanuel United Church of Christ for hosting them by presenting two pictures printed on canvas -- one of their 135th Anniversary earlier this year and another of their beautiful altar at Christmas.  Below, from left to right Allan Smith (WCHS), Pam Steffens (Emanuel), Ed Wendell (WCHS), Leonora Lavan (WCHS), Walter Steffens (Emanuel), Rose Kavanaugh (WCHS), Joey Wendell (WCHS) and Susan Meyer (WCHS).

Here are the members of the WCHS enjoying their holiday lunch.

After lunch, we got to the Kris Kringle.

After the party, we headed off to Jamaica Avenue for an old-fashioned street party complete with chestnuts roasting on an open fire, courtesy of Dr. DeSano.
