For many years, the residents of Woodhaven have been coming out to two Memorial Day ceremonies.  The first, which took place this past Thursday, takes place at Forest Parkway and Jamaica Avenue, at the war memorial.  Despite the inclement weather -- rain, cold winds -- a nice crowd showed up to remember those who gave their all for our country and to thank those who served.

The cadets from Franklin K. Lane's ROTC program presented the colors --

The veterans from American Legion Post 118 were on hand -- they will be holding a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday at 10:30 AM at the Garden of Remembrance.

Paul Rudolph Sr. of Post 118 was the Master of Ceremonies -

The residents were treated to a rousing rendition of God Bless America --

The veterans and the cadets were joined by Maria Thomson of the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation, sponsor of the ceremony, and Councilman Eric Ulrich.

Melinda Katz was a guest at the ceremony.  She will be one of the Grand Marshalls at the Forest Hills Memorial Day Parade.
