As part of the continuing series of concerts in Forest Park, this week saw a performance by Bad Medicine, a Bon Jovi tribute band (billed as the only Bon Jovi tribute band actually hired by Bon Jovi.)  This concert was sponsored by Maspeth Federal Savings & Loan.

Early on, it became apparent there was going to be a good crowd - it was a beautiful night, perfect for sitting out and enjoying the fresh air.  We stopped off at Sam's Deli, the new place at the corner of 87th and Jamaica, and picked up a few sandwiches.  They advertise the "best sandwiches in town" and they were quite good -- the hero I had was tasty and they sure didn't skimp on the turkey.  But you didn't click on this link to read about my sandwich.  We'll do a separate story on Sam's at a later date.

Mind you, these pictures were taken about 30 minutes before the show.  We took up residence in the first row, a spot we would occupy for the first few songs.

There were people of all ages -- families -- groups of teenagers -- adults getting together to hang out.  The area around the bandshell is so spread out that you could sit up close to listen to the music -- or you could sit way back, still hear the music, and enjoy hanging out and talking with your friends.  Around 7:30, the band came out and began to play.

I must confess -- and I know I'll sound like an old fogey -- but I don't know many of Bon Jovi's songs, so I can't give an actual song-by-song listing of what they played.  But I did recognize a few of their songs, the hits.

Not many folks were dancing early on -- that would change later on.  This young chap (at right) was the first brave soul.

This is the vantage point I enjoyed the rest of the show from :-)  There was a crowd of around 3 or 4 hundred people, all spread out, and there were a lot of them in the back few rows, hanging out.

Mrs. Project Woodhaven hung out at the front for a bit, taking some pictures and video.  It was a fun, lively crowd -- as it's been every night at the bandshell.  Click here to check out their schedule and come to a show!

Here is our video report on the concert -- highlights from the opening song through the finale:

As you can see, the band played into the night and by the time they finished, it was dark.

Many thanks to the Forest Park Trust and to Maspeth Federal Savings & Loan for putting on this show.
