We've been covering this event since way back in 2009 (click here).  We were also there in 2010 (click here) and 2011 (click here).  We were also there last year, but then Hurricane Sandy happened 2 days later and we lost the pictures and video.  The Blessing of the Pets at Emanuel United Church of Christ is one of our favorite events of the year.  It's held on the steps of the church, at the corner of 91st Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard.

One of the things we love is seeing the pets from year to year, such as Zoe (above).  Here she is, below, 5 years earlier --

Event like this are what living in a community is all about.  Getting together with your friends and neighbors, the ones on both 2 and 4 feet!  They also had a pumpkin patch out in front of the church.

Before we started we got all of the early arrivals to gather on the steps for a group picture.  The blessing was being handled this year by one of the church elders, Eric Ackermann, as the regular Pastor was under the weather.

The pups were all excited - they got to meet new friends --

There was one cat at the event -- and she just kind of stared at the dogs.

This pooch was hoping to get some of the dog treat they were handing out.

And this pooch wanted to get a closer look at our camera.  How can you not love this event?

Here's two more dogs making new friends --

Here are some more pictures we took at this event.  Look forward to next year - and many years beyond!

Eric showed that he had a way with the pups.

Here's a turtle!

Here are Jason and April, two turtles that were bought at the Woodhaven Street Fair about 15 years ago.

Here are Jason and April back in 2009 --

A great time was had by all --

And finally, as we left, we caught sight of this four-legged friend -- who seemed like he was reaching out to us, maybe wanting to be part of the blessing.
